A few Words about Cupping
In a 50‑minute cupping session the back becomes overall softer in a way no hand can achieve! I immediately see edema and swelling being absorbed, while simultaneously hard muscles soften and the whole back becomes smoother and more supple. I feel that no hand can do what cups do.
But really, how do cups work?
Cups are initially placed by alternative therapist Filio Moutafi according to the principles of T.C.M. This activates acupuncture points and their therapeutic properties for the body.
With the vacuum, cups suction out deeper toxins from the affected area. At the same time, the tissue enclosed by the cup undergoes vasodilation. The toxins drawn out enter the blood vessels and from there are carried by the bloodstream to the kidneys, where they are eliminated. In this way cups perform detoxification.
That is why the saying is true: where the body bruises from the cup, there is an issue. The body does not hurt because of the cups’ application; it bruises because the toxins have a darker color and when they enter the vessels this darker color becomes visible.
How are cups applied?
They are not applied exactly like grandmothers used to do. Manual massage precedes the application of the cups to prepare and warm the body. As a result, the cups do not hurt at all. We control the suction strength, as we control the strength of the hand, and we do not want you to feel pain — cups should only relieve you.
Also, depending on the result we want to achieve, we use stimulation cups or dispersing cups, applied in different ways. Sometimes gentler, sometimes stronger; sometimes dragging cups, sometimes quick-off cups for even deeper detoxification.
What should we take care of, after cupping session?
Drink plenty of water to help the body eliminate toxins.
Also, it is known that we should avoid drafts and remain in a closed (warm) space that day, because the skin pores are especially open after the suction caused by the cups.
When are cups indicated?
We use them in many cases such as: colds, hard/tight muscles, muscle cramps, edema (swelling), cellulite, to improve blood circulation and for detoxification, and to stimulate the body’s self‑healing. Cups are effective wherever manual massage helps, and often even more so.
